Intellectual Publics: A Conversation Between Hua Hsu and Salamishah Tillet

  • The Skylight Room at The Graduate Center 365 5th Avenue New York, NY, 10016 United States (map)

Join us for a conversation between Pulitzer-prize-winning writers and lifelong friends Hua Hsu and Salamishah Tillet as they discuss their paths and the formation of their respective commitments, their process of navigating different genres of writing, and the lessons they've learned from each other and others about voice, style, and structure. They will consider how the category of the "public intellectual," a figure which loomed large when they were in graduate school together, has evolved over the past decade, with the emergence of new forms of online writing and criticism, the contraction of mainstream journalism, and the rise of "hybrid" academics addressing different audiences simultaneously.
